Placenta for breakfast?

Ha! Clever title to get you to my blog?
Gotcha.
No, but really.
I've been swallowing my Placenta for Breakfast and Dinner since we got home from the Hospital.
Now, before you go get all weirded out, let me explain:

I heard about the 'eating your placenta thing' awhile ago, thought the person was crazy, and never let it cross my mind again. Until pregnancy, it was a little secret whisper in the back of my mind, and after hearing about it in our Birthing Prep class - decided to look into it a little bit more.

The placenta is an AMAZING organ, unique to MY body - so it is the BEST vitamin I could ever hope to swallow - so after talking it over with the hubs {who said I could do whatever I wanted with said placenta} we made sure that as soon as that thing popped out it was sealed up and safe to be delivered to our Encapsulator in Sacramento.

Chad drove it {'it' being my boxed placenta to Sacramento the day after Presley arrived}
And 2 days later it arrived in my mail box in pill form.

Taking the Placenta helps with:
 Postpartum Depression & Fatigue
Breast milk Production
 Energy
Balancing hormones
Overall Recovery and postpartum bleeding
Iron deficiencies

So, do I even open this up for comments? Ha.
Preggo mommies, I really recommend it - I've had amazing energy levels, the house has stayed cleaned, laundry, dishes, vacuuming are done - I'm up every 3 hours with Presley and happy as a clam. It might be the pills, it might be the Placebo effect - but either way,
 I'm
SOLD.

  1. I'm not a mom and this grosses me out (just being honest) but it DOES make complete sense. I mean every other animal does it. I watched my dog give birth when I was little and she chomped right down on it. It's all just taboo to society and that's why we think it's gross. We could also turn breast feeding into something "gross" and not do that either right?

  2. Tausha. I have no words. Like I am glad you got it in pill form instead of just chomping down. But then again I have never had a baby. Let me digest this topic.
    Pun intended.

  3. I am not a mom and I do not understand it fully. BUT this does not gross me out. (SURPRISINGLY). Do what you need to do! Don't let people judge you for it!

  5. Good for you! We are the only mammals that don't eat the placenta and of course it makes since.

    1. Haha, I know! I've seen pictures and couldn't imagine eating it straight! I didn't see mine, I had a baby on me, and it was rushed away in a bag to the refridgerator! Ya, your placenta might not have been as yummy - it kinda does sound like a demon sack!

I'm feeling awesome, so hopefully no demons here!!
PS Holden is seriously ADORABLE, if we weren't moving I'd probably have to hook Presley up with him!

  7. I have heard A LOT of people talk about this--and I have always been grossed about it because they talk about actually eating. Like, making it into a soup or roast and eating it. Little caplets like this I could handle, though! Thanks for sharing something so personal. And congrats, mamma! You look great!

  9. I was recently pregnant and really thought about it but things didn't work out. We live in a small town and to take my placenta to an encapsulation location was just too far. I am 11 weeks pp and I'm wishing I had those pills now. Hormones all over the place! Good for you! Enjoy :)

  10. Ya know, I had no idea that people who weren't crazy commune livin' hippies did this. I also didn't know that you could get people to crush it up and put it into vitamin form...how weird. Glad it's workin' for ya (also huge thumbs up for sharing this with the world!)
